The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit institution, was established by Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., in 1934. The Foundation is supporting the Sloan Digital Sky Survey with a total of $10 million in grants during the development, construction and commissioning phase of the project.
