Caveats

This page acts as a central hub to track and communicate known issues with SDSS-V DR20. Each of the mappers maintains individual pages (BHM, MWM, and LVM) with caveats that are directly associated with their data. Caveats associated with SDSS-IV and earlier phases of SDSS can be found on their associated websites, which can be found via the Completed Survey page.

SDSS ID Caveats

SDSS DR## in SIMBAD

SDSS ID is the internal designation, but it is officially recorded by the IAU and referenced in SIMBAD as “SDSS DR##”, where ## is the associated data release (e.g., 19, 20, etc.). The numeric IDs will be consistent between the internal and external designations.

Missing Legacy Objects in SDSS ID

In the version of the ALLSPEC released in DR20, a total of 10,046,926 legacy targets (36% of the total) are missing SDSS IDs. The majority of these targets do have assigned SDSS IDs that can be accessed via other products (e.g., the MOS target files and CAS tables) and the linkage problem will be solved in a future release.

Additionally 1,106 MaNGA targets with data products do not have an associated SDSS ID. These correspond to several ancillary targets that were not observed as part of the project original target selection. This problem will be solved for DR21.

MOS Target Caveats

At present, no known caveats have been identified in the DR20 MOS Target product

BHM & MWM BOSS Data Caveats

At present, the list of these caveats is maintained on the individual mapper pages: BHM, MWM

MWM APOGEE Caveats

At present, the list of these caveats is maintained on the individual mapper pages: MWM

No New APOGEE data in DR20

No new APOGEE data are being released or analyzed in DR20. We have copied the DR19 data into the DR20 files to consolidate all the most recent public data in one place. In DR21, we anticipate releasing APOGEE data, including the first SDSS-V APOGEE spectra from Las Campanas Observatory as well as the results from updated analysis pipelines.

LVM/LVMi Caveats

At present, the list of these caveats is maintained on the individual mapper pages: LVM
