1. Can you describe your role in the SDSS collaboration and what you enjoy most about it?
I am the BHM BOSS Pipeline lead and am currently responsible for the development and operation of the BOSS pipeline. I enjoy interacting with the data on a day-to-day basis and supporting the collaboration in their use of the BOSS data for science.
2. Can you tell us about your educational background and how you got interested in the field of astronomy/astrophysics?
I got interested in astronomy as a child while stargazing with cub scouts. I got my BS in Applied Physics from Appalachian State University and followed that with a MS from the University of South Carolina. I then moved to France, and completed my PhD in Astrophysics and Cosmology at Aix-Marseille University.
3. What projects are you currently working on and what are you most excited about?
I am primarily focused on the BOSS pipeline development and operations. However, I actively work with the various BHM science projects, supplying my expertise where I can.
4. Can you describe how you balance work and personal life, and what advice would you give to someone just starting in the field?
Work-life balance can be hard, especially when ina support role for a large project like SDSS-V, or as an astronomer in general. However, ensuring you disconnect from work while not working is important. If the job demands work outside of typical hours, being flexible (where possible) with your hours and ensuring that you preserve the balance is critical
5. Can you share with us a unique hobby or interest that you have outside of work?
I enjoy skiing and traveling in my free time.
