Saskia Hekker

1. Can you describe your role in the SDSS collaboration and what you enjoy most about it?

I am a co-lead of the TESS-MWM RGB Seismology Working Group together with Sarbani Basu and Jamie Tayar.

2. Can you tell us about your educational background and how you got interested in the field of astronomy/astrophysics?

I have a Master in Applied Physics and did my PhD at Leiden University with the thesis topic ‘Radial velocity variations in Red Giants: pulsations, spots and planets. I have always been fascinated by and interested in astrophysics and astronomy.

3. What projects are you currently working on and what are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the fact that we build a legacy to have so many stars observed with timeseries data to have asteroseismology, as well as spectra.

4. Can you describe how you balance work and personal life, and what advice would you give to someone just starting in the field?

Keep focused and keep in mind that the struggle is worth it.

5. Can you share with us a unique hobby or interest that you have outside of work?

I love all kind of sports, especially running and biking.
